The Last 10% ~ Rugs

Updating underfoot...

Rugs don’t really belong in the last 10% when it comes to the decor of your home, but they do need updating now and then. While you can plan an entire room’s theme and colors around a newfound or beloved vintage rug, it’s also key to have sources you can count on when your area rugs need replacing. Case in point: our 4th of July celebration was a little too hard on our kitchen rug and it was time to say goodbye! I’m on the hunt for something beautiful and durable that will last awhile, so I thought I’d share some of my go-to’s when it comes to finding a new rug. There are endless sources out there, including Etsy (just search for vintage or oushak rugs), 1st Dibs, and Chairish, but these are a few I turn to again and again, whether for myself or a current project:

Formerly Dash & Albert and the primary source for the brand, Annie Selke is a great place to start when looking for an indoor or outdoor rug. You can shop by color, size, material, or use, and they have a custom rug shop as well if you are creating a specific size. Many of their rugs are machine washable, and they feature collections with designers such as Bunny Williams and Kit Kemp.

Pepper Home has partnered with Loom & Co. to create custom rugs that are made to order to your specifications, and they offer style suggestions and assistance in selecting colors and sizes. You can order color cards to see the exact shades of your rug - kind of like a CFA (cutting for approval) that designers request before placing fabric orders. These rugs are 100% wool oushaks and come in beautiful, fresh colors and patterns.

A quintessential California design shop, Serena & Lily has a curated selection of rugs in wool, jute, and performance, as well as a tailored rug guide. Their Madrone Rug (below) is a designer favorite and works with a variety of interiors, providing a subtle pattern in jute. Coastal colors and materials ensure these rugs are right at home whether you’re on the beach or just dreaming about your next vacation.

Shea McGee knocks it out of the park when it comes to neutrals and textures in a warm but clean aesthetic, and her rugs are a perfect expression of her firm’s notable style. You can find hand-tufted, indoor/outdoor, and jute rugs in a variety of sizes, and the shop offers a rug guide for purchasing just the right size and material. They also offer cheerful doormats - a welcome addition to your threshold. Take the time to peruse this collection - you may just find something unexpected that pulls your room together or updates your space in style.

It’s worth mentioning that the Ruggable x goop collab dropped on July 10 and features a selection of organic, washable rugs designed with goop-like style and Ruggable durability. Ruggable is ideal for high-traffic areas and those with kids, pets, rowdy in-laws, or those who want sustainable rugs with the ease of washability. Check out Ruggable x goop here, and browse their extensive rugs by room, texture, or style online.

For the record ~

While sharing these sources with you, I found this rug from McGee & Co. that I think will be the perfect update to our kitchen. Our kitchen is a walk-through space and can definitely get a little messy, so I think this will work well and hopefully last through the next 4th of July!

Rugs definitely set the tone for any room and make all the difference in overall look and feel for your space. I hope today’s newsletter gave you a little inspiration and ideas for updating your space underfoot. Thank you for reading and I’ll see you here next time. Enjoy your weekend!
